Date Square Balls

I have always loved date squares!  Even had them at my wedding, lovingly made by my husband’s amazing grandfather.

Now we can can enjoy a raw healthier version…in ball form no less!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups raw almond
  • 1 1/2 cup oat – preferably gluten free
  • 16 madjool dates pitted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon raw agave nectar or raw honey
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 2 teaspoons water (optional if needed)
  • 1/2 cup walnut pieces

Directions

1. In a food processor fitted with a metal blade, add the almonds, oats and pinch of salt

and process until they become a flour.

2. Add the cinnamon, orange zest, maple syrup, dates and coconut oil and process until dough comes together. If the dough seem a little dry add the water, one teaspoon at a time. Pulse in walnuts so that they are well incorporated, but do not become much smaller.

3. Roll into balls and place in the freezer or fridge. Eat chilled, but not frozen (unless you want to!).
